Mission

Security Patrol

The main objective of Aldan Townwatch is to increase the effectiveness of the Aldan Police Department by acting as additional eyes and ears on the streets and by relaying information to the police department.  Our members patrol the Borough of Aldan looking for anything out of the ordinary.  Normally, there are two Townwatch vehicles on patrol with two members in each vehicle.  Suspicious situations are reported to the Townwatch Base Operator who in turn notifies the police when required.  This is ALL that a Townwatch member does while on patrol.  Our members do not get out of their cars, do not get directly involved in any police work, and do not carry any firearms or weapons even if licensed to carry one.  Joining Townwatch is a very safe and effective way to reduce crime and make Aldan a safer place in which to live.

Aldan Townwatch has been credited with numerous accomplishments throughout our history.  Our members have reported fires (with several fires being extinguished by our own members before the fire department arrived), burglaries in progress, vandalism incidents, drug deals, drunk drivers, underage drinking, accidents, persons in distress, and we have been instrumental in locating suspects that the police were looking for.

Community Service

In addition to our regular security patrols, the Aldan Townwatch contributes in the many other ways to our community:
  • Donated and maintain the Police Department's patrol bikes.
  • Donated, installed, and maintain the community bulletin board outside the Police Station.
  • Donated and installed the emergency phone at the Municipal Building.
  • Provide guest speakers at the General Meetings.
  • Assist the Police Department in special situations such as providing traffic direction at emergency scenes or at town parades.
  • Provided CPR training.
  • Distribute crime prevention pamphlets and information.
